18 ESP / IAP 2020 · Glasgow e AIR TRAVEL TO GLASGOW Glasgow Airport is only 15 minutes away from the city centre and offers direct flights to 150 scheduled destina- tions, both national and international. A shuttle bus operating every 10 minutes, with stops at major hotels, offers 24-hour service. An alternative is to arrive in Edinburgh: The airport is conveniently connected either by a bus shuttle (leaving every 30 min from the airport) or by train (leaving every 15 min from Edinburgh Haymarket station). The travel time to Glasgow city centre is less than one hour. e JOURNEY TO GLASGOW BY CAR Glasgow is linked to Edinburgh with the M8, England on the M74, Stirling with the M80 and the West Coast of Scotland with the M77. The city's venues and hotels are comfortably accessed by road. e TRAVEL TO GLASGOW BY FERRY The closest ferry connection is Amsterdam - Newcastle. From Newcastle, Glasgow can be reached by car in ap- prox. 2 hours and 40 minutes. e TRAVEL TO GLASGOW BY RAIL Glasgow Central Station links Glasgow by rail to all UK cities south of Glasgow. Glasgow Queen Street Station operates routes mainly to Central and Northern Scot- land. There are more than 20 direct trains per day from Lon- don (travel time 4 hours 10 min) as well as direct trains from Edinburgh (travel time 50 min) every 15 mins on weekdays. e HOW TO GET AROUND Glasgow is an easy city to find your way around. Built on a grid system, it is compact to navigate, either on foot or public transport. The Subway is the easiest way to get around the City Cen- tre and West End of Glasgow. Running every 5 minutes at peak times, it takes just 24 minutes to complete a circuit of the 15 stations. In addition to the subway system, over 100 bus routes are operated across the city. e HOW TO GET TO THE CONVENTION CENTRE By train The SEC has its own dedicated railway station – Exhibi- tion Centre – allowing easy access from the city centre and suburbs. There are six trains an hour (around every 10 minutes) from Glasgow Central station, departing from Platform 17 (low level). By bus The bus stop closest to the SEC is “SEC Bus Stance” – served by the Riversider 100. The X19 Stagecoach service operates near to the Scottish Event Campus, stopping on Finnieston Street only a few minutes' walk from the SEC. By taxi There is a Glasgow Taxis pick-up and drop-off point out- side the SSE Hydro, which is located opposite the SEC main entrance. The distinctive black cabs can accommodate five or six people.
